World's Best Zombie Proof Homes

If you’ve read our zombie survival guide, you’ll know how important a stronghold is to survival. Whether you decide to stay in your existing home or seek out refuge elsewhere, it’s helpful to see how others are building out their zombie proof homes. Here is some inspiration from around the world for your apocalypse stronghold.

Safe House

Safe House by KWK Promes

Location: Warsaw, Poland
Safe House was designed by Robert Konieczny of KWK Promes in 2009. This black, cuboid structure features movable exterior walls that open and close. The movable steel walls are insulated with mineral wool to keep occupants warm in winter. When all the doors are opened, Safe House has stunning views of the yard and outside world.

Another feature of the house is the outer gate which provides an extra layer of security in zombie attacks.

Permanent Camping

Location: Mudgee, New South Wales, Australia
Permanent Camping was designed by Casey Brown and is the most charming of the zombie proof homes on this list. This Australian home features roofs that close down to protect the first floor of the house. Permanent Camping features panoramic views that stretch for hundreds of miles.

Another great feature of the house is its water collecting abilities. Water is collected through the roof and shuttled off to the water tank south of the building.

New Bivouac Gervasutti

Location: Courmayeur, Italy
New Bivouac Gervasutti is a solar powered mountain cabin in Italy. Designed by LEAPFactory, this prefabricated refuge can withstand extreme high-altitude conditions. Gervasutti was built with the help of helicopters and can only be enjoyed by climbers willing to make the 9,300 foot climb to the summit.

Ark House

Arc House by KWK Promes

Location: Krakow, Poland
Ark House is the second home on this list designed by Robert Konieczny of KWK Promes. This barn-style structure sits on a slope that is also home to horses and sheep. The most striking feature of Ark House is its foundation, which is designed like a bridge to allow rain to flow through.

Only one corner of the house touches the ground. This corner features a drawbridge which can be raised and lowered, and serves as the main entrance. The underside of the house acts as a storage area for firewood and maintenance equipment. Sliding exterior walls can be moved to protect inhabitants from zombies and looters.

Location: Somewhere near Savannah, Georgia, United States
Dubbed “The Facility,” this underground nuclear bunker sits 45 feet below ground. Originally built by the U.S. government in 1969, it underwent a full renovation in 2012. The 14,000-square-foot floor plan boasts 12 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. The structure can supposedly withstand a 20-kiloton nuclear explosion. Interested in buying it for the zombie apocalypse? The Facility was last on the market in 2015 for $17.5 million.
